Spring 2019

Simple parameters, endless possibility. Create a structure using exactly 100 3”x5“ notecards. This began with a simple slot system that was then expanded vertically and horizontally through incremental refinements. At scale, the final interior volume is 1,100 ft2. The work is an experiment in systems, scale, and space.
FROM THE SYLLABUS: Efficiency is a positive design criterion that shows up in most every design discipline. An efficient design offers an optimized condition while using minimal resources, such as raw materials, processing, labor, transportation, money, or time. This introductory project asks you to explore weight, strength, stiffness, and scale. You are asked to create a speculative form of human habitation using inexpensive, lightweight, modular panels.

Spring 2020

FROM THE WEBSITE:
NYU Applied Psychology OPUS (Online Publication of Undergraduate Studies) is a bi-annual showcase of undergraduate student work in psychology. OPUS was created to encourage and showcase the exemplary work of NYU undergraduate students in psychology. As an online publication, OPUS is designed to allow students to reach a wider audience with their work, simultaneously creating the potential for dialogue both within and beyond NYU. OPUS strives to build a community of excellence for undergraduates who are not only studying psychology from a textbook but becoming actively engaged by asking questions and applying their knowledge of a cultured psychology to their world.
I was recruited to create cover art and album review artwork for the Spring 2020 edition of OPUS. The images were united by the imagery of the musical staff, often appearing ribbon-like or etheral as they cross the planes of each piece. Each image went through several stages of revisions to match what the writers had in mind to accompany their written pieces.

topic Depictions of Mary in 15th to 18th Century Spain

Since the great Spanish monarchies in the 15th century and onwards, Spain has established itself as one of the most adamantly Catholic nations in the western world. Through periods of religious conflict, including the Reformation in the 16th century, Christian art in Spain has served to reflect many of the cultural and ideological shifts that were taking place there. One of the key iconographical figures in the Catholic Church today is the Virgin Mary. But the modes of representation through which she has historically been depicted have been far from consistent; on the contrary, her existence is a highly mediated one. The procession from Byzantine style Hodegetria icons to later annunciations, adorations, assumptions, and immaculate conceptions all follow in tandem with respective religious movements of belief throughout the course of Spanish and European history.

In order to understand the significance of the Virgin Mary within Spanish art, it is necessary first to understand who she was in accordance with the scripture. Contrary to the abundance of material we have that represents Mary in religious contexts, her presence in the Gospels themselves is small...

The courtyard was designed as a multi-use space that brings students and faculty together and offers a safe way for students to get fresh air during the day. Design started with the tiered seating in the center, similar to the design of the student center/library. This type of seating allows for multiple groups to congregate and intermingle. The neatby benches are designed the same way, with more open space in between. The inner wall features gardening space and a greenhouse that can be used during colder months to grow herbs and food right on campus, serving educational purposes related to farming and sustainability. In the center there is a full circle amphitheater inspired by the Washington Square Park fountain. It can be used for casual seating or student performances, events, and announcements. Indigineous trees and plants are used to decorate the space, as well as many local materials.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM: The Edify Symposium invites exploration of the question: what are the features of an ideal 21st century education? This year’s symposium offers design solutions for present-day wants and needs in schools through architectural and curricular redesigns of a public high school in rural Massachusetts — Monument Mountain Regional High School.

To design successful spaces for the school, we need to have a basic understanding of the curriculum and behavior happening in those classrooms and shared areas. The current US public school system is putting contemporary learners into outdated institutions that too frequently fail to get students excited about learning, ready for the future, and allow students to explore their own interests and creativity. The Edify curriculum team, is developing new teaching frameworks in the context of four key areas that should be emphasized in K-12 curriculum: ecological sustainability, technological literacy, creativity & entrepreneurship, and human & life skills.
